So many people around the world are trying to understand whatever happened in Brazil. There is the rigged election of a far-right candidate, of course, who was only elected because they jailed ex-president Lula, favorite in the polls. The judge who condemned Lula without evidence of guilt was named as future minister of Justice. But all the electoral circus is based on much more serious transformations, namely the emergence of a powerful political and economic organization around the main banks and other financial institutions. This financialization which brought down a very positive experience – “the golden decade of Brazil” according to the World Bank – is analyzed in a powerful overview.
